Known as the "Taj Mahal" of Homestead, this peculiar "castle" sits just 30 miles south of Miami. Built by Latvian immigrant Edward Leedskalnin between 1920 and 1940, the eerie sculpture made entirely of coral pays homage to his broken engagement with Agnes. Heartbroken, Leedskalnin spent 30 years crafting this massive coral and limestone structure in her honor. The Coral Castle's mystery lies in how Leedskalnin, working alone, quarried, transported, and transformed 1,100 tons of coral rock. Various theories, ranging from reverse magnetism to black magic, attempt to explain the enigma. Visit at 28655 S Dixie Hwy, Homestead, FL 33033, during the hours of Thurs-Sun, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
